Support the section leadership in developing equitable policies, evaluate impact of pending legislation from equity and social justice perspectives, and present changes to senior leaderships in the division and to the department heads, including to the Board of Health.

Incorporate Change Management principles to improve accountability and positive work culture in the section.

Act as a point of contact on contentious and/or politically sensitive interventions such as with Human Resources and Union related matters.

Respond to requests for assistance from upper leadership and prioritize and allocate resources to ensure completion of work.

Provide leadership and strategic planning in support of the Assistant Division Director and provide back-up coverage as needed.

Lead, coordinate and manage key projects of significance for the section Assist with multiple projects and help generate and make data informed decisions.The successful candidate will also play a critical role in budget development for the section as well as a pivotal role in liaising with other departments and divisions.

Some examples of specific duties include managing and directing the evolution of the food safety rating system leading projects to improve quality and consistency of services and the permitting process improving document management supporting the transition to a new software media relations and records and files digitization as well as providing coaching, support, and mentorship to section leadership around soft skills, healthy conflict, performance management, and team-building. High level responsibilities include project management, policy development, strategic decision-making, media relations, human resources and budgeting/staffing.
